Information on student health care and the digital health survey

Important reading for new students of compulsory education age (and as information to guardians).

You have the support of student welfare services, that is, the services of a public health nurse, doctor, psychologist and social worker. At the beginning of your studies, you complete a digital health survey for student health care.

Digital health survey

• To complete the survey, you need strong identification (online banking ID or mobile certificate).
• If you do not have strong identification, ask the public health nurse for a paper questionnaire.
• The survey is available in Finnish, Swedish and English.

Health examinations

• The digital health survey is used to identify the students whose health or need for support must be examined already during their first year of study.
• If you do not respond to the survey, you will receive an invitation to a health examination in your first year of study.
• If the survey indicates that you do not need support, the examination by a public health nurse and doctor will be carried out in the year when you turn 18.
• You can always seek student health care services yourself, regardless of the survey.
• For vocational education students: Students in certain vocational fields are invited to a health examination during the first year, regardless of the survey.

Preliminary health examination for conscripts in student health care

Starting in 2027, the medical examination in student health care will be integrated with the preliminary health examination for conscripts. The examination is carried out simultaneously for the entire age group. Women are asked for their consent to the conscript fitness assessment. The preliminary health examination is carried out by the wellbeing services county in which the educational institution is located. The digital health survey is also used in the preparation of the conscript fitness assessment.

Health examination for adult students

• If necessary, you will be invited to a health examination on the basis of the health survey.
• You can always seek student health care services yourself, regardless of the survey.
• Vocational upper secondary and further vocational qualification students: Students in certain vocational fields are invited to a health examination during the first year, regardless of the survey.
