General Studies (YTO)

General Studies (YTO) strengthen language skills, mathematical competence and societal understanding. These general studies also support students self-confidence for working life and further studies.

The total scope of General Studies is 35 competence points (osp). They consist of the following areas:

• Communication and interaction competence, 11 osp
• Mathematics and science competence, 6 osp
• Citizenship and working life competence, 9 osp
• Elective studies, 9 osp.

Course Assessment

• Assessment takes place within two weeks after the study period ends.
• A grade is given on a scale of 1–5, or the course may be failed.
• If a course is left incomplete, it must be retaken with another group.

Why should YTO studies be completed on time?

• They support the progress of vocational studies.
• They strengthen preparedness for further studies.
• YTO grades can be used when applying, for example, to universities of applied sciences.
• Incomplete YTO studies may delay graduation later.
